Does Grub Control Prevent Armadillos and Armadillo Damage?

When it comes to maintaining a pristine lawn, the presence of grubs and the damage caused by armadillos can be particularly frustrating. At Marshall Lawn Solutions LLC, we often get asked whether grub control can effectively prevent armadillos from wreaking havoc on your lawn.

The short answer is no.

Let's delve into why that is and how our services can still help you maintain a beautiful and healthy lawn.

Understanding Grub Control

Grub control is an essential service designed to prevent damage caused by grubs—those pesky larvae of various beetles that feed on grass roots, leading to unsightly patches and weakened roots and turf. Our grub control treatment focuses on eradicating these lawn invaders at specific times of year before they can fully develop, thereby preserving the health and appearance of your lawn. While it's a crucial step in lawn care, it is important to understand its limitations when it comes to preventing armadillo damage.

The Armadillo Dilemma

Armadillos are opportunistic feeders with a diverse diet that includes insects, worms, and other small invertebrates. While grubs are one of their preferred food sources, they are by no means the only item on the menu. Even with effective grub control, armadillos can still dig up your lawn in search of other insects and bugs. Thus, while controlling the grub population can make your lawn less appealing to armadillos, it won't completely eliminate the risk of armadillo damage.

How Marshall Lawn Solutions Can Help

At Marshall Lawn Solutions, we understand the frustrations that come with lawn care, particularly when dealing with pests like grubs and armadillos. Our premium grub control service is designed to target grubs, in early development stages thereby reducing one of the primary attractions for armadillos. This, in turn, can minimize the extent of armadillo damage, though it won't completely prevent them from visiting your lawn. By investing in our high-quality grub control and turf insect control services, you are taking a significant step toward maintaining a healthier, more resilient lawn. Our commitment to using only the best products and treatment plans ensures that your lawn remains lush and green, even in the face of potential pest challenges.

How many grubs are okay to have in my lawn?

Grub control limits and weakens populations of grubs from reaching maturity where they can cause damage. It is not possible to completely eliminate grubs. 5 or less per square foot is not a cause for alarm, it is considered acceptable. 10 or more per square foot is cause for concern.

What if I am a new customer starting in the fall with an infestation and have missed the grub control window for the year?

Grub control is performed in early to late summer, when larva is most vulnerable. If there is no evidence of grub damage, we follow integrated pest control (IPM) practices and will not apply our standard grub control as it will not kill on mature grubs.

If you have an infestation of grubs damaging your lawn after the grub control application timeframe, we offer an additional service for a fee and can apply a treatment specifically designed for treating mature grubs.
